Development Orders of Jamaica
Documents that regulate and control the use of the land; ensure that the land is not misused. At first they were thought for sensitive areas such as Coastal Borders, but then applied to full municipalities that had accelerated development.
The functions of the development orders are:
- To specify areas of application.
- To give directions as to how development permits can be obtained.
- To include a development plan showing a land use strategy for special areas such as regional capitals, places of aesthetic value, parks, etc.
- To limit the development to the areas in which the services and equipment exist or are planned.
