Town and country planning Act (No. 21 of 1990) of Trinidad and Tobago

This Act makes provision for the orderly and progressive development of land in both urban and rural areas and it aims to preserve and improve the amenities thereof.

The  Town and country planning Act establishes responsibilities for the process of development and use of the land. In this way, it corresponds to the Minister to ensure consistency and continuity in the framing and execution of a comprehensive policy in this subject. The law also dictates that the development plan is the main instrument to guide land use and development.
